Tough Mudder Manchester 2026 Saturday
My most ambitious Tough Mudder day yet. Two 15k runs followed by a 5k, taking on 35 kilometres of advertised courses in freezing rain, relentless mud and conditions that pushed my endurance further than ever before. Three runs completed. Three more to go. 🦔💛

The Story Behind the Result
My most ambitious Tough Mudder day yet. Two 15k runs followed by a 5k, taking on 35 kilometres of advertised courses in freezing rain, relentless mud and conditions that pushed my endurance further than ever before.
Raynaud’s played havoc with my grip, the course deteriorated throughout the day, and a rather cold hedgehog accidentally followed the spectator route while apparently searching for somewhere to hibernate! Despite the challenges, I completed all three runs, collected three more shinies and learnt some invaluable lessons about pacing, preparation and knowing when to slow down.
Three runs completed. Three more to go. 🦔💛

Lumberjacked
Climbing
As a little on the short side, these are just an awkward obstacle for me. Need a little more upper body strength and better technique. There not a struggle, just inconvenient.
Sack Up
Carry
I use to carry more weight than this all the time, but pick the bag up, and a nice walk, never run to make sure I don’t pick up an injury.

Mud Mile
Mud
I do like a nice muddy Mud Mile. Yorkshire and South West were both bigger peaks, but this was better than London West mini-Mud Mile

Hangin’ Tough
Hanging / grip
Struggled. Usually have difficulty due to lack of upper body strength, but when your hands are numb, completely impossible
Devil’s Beard
Climbing
Same technique as always. On all 4s, head low to the ground and crawl forwards. A good crawl, only get’s difficult when people are lifting the net which meant my feet got tangled up.
Walk This Way
Other
Definitely easier on your own, haven’t ever tried this with others. Use straps near middle of ski, and a nice little shuffle.
Hero Walls
Walls
Still don’t like these. i have discovered something after the event. It’s harder to pull up from a straight arm, than bent…need to make sure arms aren’t straight next time. It’s all about technique.
Electric Eel
Electrical
No electric shocks, keep head low and in the water….once a tentacle has got you square in the head, you’re gonna keep your head low next time.
Swamp Stomp
Other
This was a decent Swamp Stomp. Think I encountered this as Yorkshire, but there it wasn’t really a swamp…more a muddy puddle.
Killa Gorilla
Climbing
A little disappointing. Criss-crossing a flat field takes it out of you, but it’s not a killa….probably would be better at Manchester to have something with repeated hurdles or obstacles. Killa Gorrilla doesn’t really work in a flat field.

Twinkle Toes
Balance
My balance is still appalling. I’m improving, but not quite there yet.
Ape Sh*t
Another one that feel victim to my numb hands. Loved Funky Monkey at South West, but here there was no chance….nice refreshing bath for me.

Kiss of Mud
Crawling · Mud
There will be mud! Issue at all previous runs of the season didn’t occur here. No sharpe gravel, just beautiful soft mud.
Sewer Rat
Felt a little disappointed by this one. Was expecting more, but still great fun.

Stairway to Heaven
Climbing
Nice and easy vertical cargo net climb. Always a good view from the top, but still haven’t had the nerve to do the roll dismount yet.
Skidmarked
Needed a little help on the first run. My hands just couldn’t grip the top, but the nice volunteer gave me a little push.
Just the Tip
Hanging / grip
Absolutely no chance 😢 The grips were soaking wet and my hands were shot.
Dong Dangler
Climbing · Hanging / grip
Though I would give this a go as I really enjoy this obstacle. I thought gripping the rope would be easy, it was only once I got 50% into the obstacle that I realised I spotted that although I thought I was gripping the rope, my fingers hadn’t even opened….

Cage Crawl
Water
Not a hard obstacle. In on your back and pull…nice and quick, and usually refreshing, but not too much today.

Everest
Walls
I’ve developed a phobia for Everest. I didn’t once this weekend attempt…..I was more concern about finishing the weekend uninjured. London West Infinity I am going to best this every single lap 💪
Mudderhorn
Climbing
I was sizing this up to have a go without assistance, but then a wonderful legionnaire came along and offered me the use of their thigh. Very greatful, although I need to practice conquering this one on my own.
