There are sensible things to do the weekend immediately after World’s Toughest Mudder.

Signing up for another Tough Mudder Infinity probably isn’t one of them.

But that’s the plan.

Just one week after taking on the biggest challenge of the year, I’ll be heading to the Midlands for another full Tough Mudder weekend. Saturday will be Tough Mudder Infinity, followed by both the 15K and 5K on Sunday as part of the 2027 Season Pass.

Under normal circumstances, that would already make for a pretty substantial weekend.

These are not normal circumstances.

The goal: just get round

There will be no heroic target for this one. No mileage ambition for Infinity. No attempt to chase laps, times or anything else remotely sensible to measure.

The target is simply:

Get round.

Whatever World’s Toughest Mudder has taken out of me the previous weekend, the job here is to turn up, keep moving and make it through Saturday’s Infinity before somehow getting myself back onto the course again for the 15K and 5K on Sunday.

It could be brilliant.

It could be ridiculous.

It will probably be both.

There may also be another reason…

Quietly, there is another target developing for 2027.

If everything falls into place, I’m going to try to earn four Tough Mudder Trifecta medals during the year.

With the current European event calendar, that appears to be the maximum number available, which means there isn’t much room for missing weekends.

And while we’re keeping things quiet…

There might also be a slightly bigger personal challenge hiding in the background:

Run every Tough Mudder event on the European calendar in 2027.

London West. Scotland. World’s Toughest Mudder. Midlands. And everything that follows.

No grand declaration just yet.

One event at a time.

For the Midlands, though, the mission could not be simpler.

Turn up one week after World’s Toughest Mudder.

Put one foot in front of the other.

And get round.

Grasmere Wild Trail Runs

Another trip to the Lake District, but this time the running shoes are coming with me.

The Grasmere Wild Trail Runs have been on my radar as exactly the sort of event that fits into the Tough Smudge journey. It isn't an obstacle race and it isn't about chasing a flat-road 10K time. This is about getting more experience running properly off-road, dealing with hills, changing surfaces and the sort of terrain that makes ten kilometres feel very different from ten kilometres on tarmac.

Tough Mudder: London West 2027

The first major endurance rehearsal. Tough Smudge heads to London West for an eight-hour Infinity on Saturday, before returning on Sunday for both the 15K and 5K. The Infinity target isn't a distance award. It's to complete the experience, learn from it and discover how much is left when it's time to go again.

Tough Mudder: London South 2026

The Tough Smudge journey heads to Holmbush Estate for Tough Mudder London South 2026. Another 15K, another 20+ obstacles and another chance to build experience, endurance and resilience on the road to World's Toughest Mudder 2027.
