The Tough Smudge journey continues south to Holmbush Estate in West Sussex for Tough Mudder London South, one of the biggest events on the UK Tough Mudder calendar.
London South has a reputation for delivering everything a Tough Mudder should: hills, woodland, natural mud, steep climbs and a course designed to make sure that simply covering the distance is only part of the challenge. Add Tough Mudder’s collection of signature obstacles and there should be very little opportunity to stay clean, dry or comfortable for long.
The full 15K course packs in more than 20 obstacles, combining running with climbing, crawling, carrying, water, mud and the teamwork that sits at the heart of Tough Mudder.
By this point, the challenge is beginning to change too.
Yorkshire was about completing my first Tough Mudder and discovering what I was capable of. South West brought the first double-header, taking on both the 15K and 5K on the same day. London South is another opportunity to put those experiences into practice, keep building endurance and become more efficient at getting through the obstacles when the miles begin to accumulate.
Every event now has a bigger purpose.
The ultimate target remains World’s Toughest Mudder 2027, where completing a single course will be replaced by the challenge of keeping going for 24 hours. That means every Tough Mudder between now and then is training as well as an event: more time on my feet, more obstacles, more mud and another opportunity to learn what works and what doesn’t.
London South is the next test.
15K. 20+ obstacles. Another Tough Mudder. Another step towards World’s Toughest.
