When I signed up for my first Tough Mudder back in July, there was one thing that had been holding me back.
I didn’t have anyone to go with.
It’s a strange thing, really. I’m quite happy doing things on my own, but the thought of turning up at an obstacle course event, surrounded by people who apparently knew what they were doing, was surprisingly intimidating.
Of course, I eventually took the plunge.
And something rather unexpected happened.
I discovered that you might arrive at a Tough Mudder alone, but you’re never really alone on the course.
There are people willing to lend a hand, offer encouragement, share a laugh and occasionally help extract you from something particularly muddy.
Four Tough Mudder weekends, fourteen finishes and a frankly unreasonable number of shinies later, I’ve become rather fond of this community.
So I started wondering…
What if I could help other people get over that initial hesitation?
Enter the Prickle Crew!
Prickle Crew is a new, independent obstacle course racing community, created to bring people together who want to get muddy, challenge themselves and enjoy the experience with others.
You don’t need to be fast.
You don’t need to be particularly athletic.
And you certainly don’t need to be brilliant at every obstacle. I’m living proof of that!
The idea is simple. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced Mudder, you should be able to find friendly faces to share an event with.
I’ve created a dedicated website at prickle-crew.uk, and I’m planning our first team outings for 2027, at every Tough Mudder Sunday throughout 2027 and both Wolf Runs.
Where team-entry discounts exist, I’ll aim to take advantage of those, or share the tips I’ve leant to ensure you get a discount on your entry. To confirm, you purchase your own tickets, and make your own way to the event, this is a community of individuals meeting up at an event and then sharing in the mud and laughs.
More mud. More mates. Possibly slightly less money.
And, naturally, more shinies.
Meet the Prickle Crew 🎬
Rather than subject everybody to several more pages of my ramblings, I’ve recorded a short introduction explaining what Prickle Crew is all about.
Don’t worry, it’s only 85 seconds.
Even I can be concise occasionally.
So, What’s Next?
Prickle Crew is very much at the beginning of its journey.
I’m continuing my own Tough Smudge adventures, including training for World’s Toughest Mudder in June 2027, but I’d also love to help other people discover the camaraderie and encouragement I’ve experienced.
If you’ve ever considered trying an obstacle course event but haven’t had anyone to go with, or they don’t have any interest, perhaps Prickle Crew could be the answer.
Or perhaps you’re already a seasoned obstacle racer who simply fancies meeting a few more muddy people.
Either way, you’re welcome.
Visit www.prickle-crew.uk to find out more and get involved.
Because getting muddy is fun.
Getting muddy with friends is even better.
Prickle Crew. Arrive Solo. Leave With a Crew. 🦔💛
Endure. Overcome. Make It Count.
And yes, the shinies are still important. 🎖️✨
