Planned: August / September 2027
Date: To be confirmed

The Yorkshire Three Peaks has been on the list for a while, but this challenge is going to be a little different.

The aim is not simply to walk the traditional Three Peaks route. The challenge is to run the Yorkshire Three Peaks, taking on Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in a single day.

At roughly 24 miles with more than 1,500 metres of climbing, it will be one of the biggest standalone running challenges I have attempted and another important step in seeing just how far I can push my endurance.

The final date is still to be confirmed, but I am currently looking at August or early September 2027. That should provide plenty of daylight while fitting around the Tough Mudder calendar, although the exact weekend will depend on which other events I ultimately book.

Building Up to It

This will not be a case of simply turning up and seeing what happens.

Between December 2026 and April 2027, I plan to tackle each of the Three Peaks individually. That will give me an opportunity to become familiar with the climbs, descents and terrain while continuing to build strength and confidence through the winter.

Once the clocks go forward in spring 2027, I intend to start completing the full Yorkshire Three Peaks route.

The first attempts will be about learning the route, understanding where I can run effectively and discovering where it makes more sense to conserve energy. If the calendar allows, I would like to complete the full route more than once before the main challenge.

By the time the final attempt arrives, the objective is that the route itself should no longer be the unknown.

The Challenge

Three peaks. One continuous route. On foot.

The goal is to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks as a run rather than simply chase the traditional walking challenge time.

There will undoubtedly be sections where the gradient or terrain makes walking the sensible option, but the intention is to run everything that can reasonably be run and see what sort of time I can achieve across the complete route.

For now, this one remains firmly marked:

Date TBC. Challenge accepted.
