One Tough Mudder Trifecta would be a pretty decent challenge.
So naturally, I’m going to try for four.
The Tough Mudder Trifecta is earned by completing each of Tough Mudder’s three main formats during the season: a 5K, a 15K and an Infinity.
Infinity is the endurance version of Tough Mudder. Rather than simply completing one course and heading for the finish line, the aim is to keep going, adding further 15K and 5K laps during the available time.
My challenge for 2027 is to complete enough of each distance to put together four full Tough Mudder Trifectas.
That means, across the season, completing the equivalent of:
Four 5Ks. Four 15Ks. Four Infinities. Four Trifectas.
On paper, the events I’m planning make it possible.
Of course, calendars are considerably easier to complete than Tough Mudders.
A season-long challenge
This challenge starts at Tough Mudder London West, the opening Tough Mudder weekend of my 2027 season.
From there, it will run across the year as I work my way through Tough Mudder weekends around the country, gradually building the 5Ks, 15Ks and Infinities needed to complete all four sets.
The aim is to have the fourth Trifecta completed by the end of my Tough Mudder season, which I currently expect to be Tough Mudder Manchester in October 2027.
There will be plenty of mud, plenty of obstacles and probably more than a few occasions when signing up for all of this seems considerably less sensible than it did while sitting at a computer.
But one weekend stands out above all the others.
The Midlands problem
Tough Mudder Midlands comes just one week after World’s Toughest Mudder.
WTM is the biggest challenge on my calendar and the event that much of my training is ultimately building towards. I have no idea exactly what condition I will be in when I cross that finish line.
Seven days later, the plan says Tough Mudder Midlands.
That recovery week could become the defining part of this challenge.
It is one thing to plan four Trifectas months in advance. It is another thing entirely to get through World’s Toughest Mudder, recover enough to get back on another Tough Mudder start line the following weekend, and keep the Trifecta attempt moving.
That is what turns this from something that should simply happen because I’m doing lots of events into a genuine challenge.
More than turning up
Four Trifectas will require more than booking the right races.
I have to stay fit. I have to remain injury free. I have to recover between events. I have to manage the Infinities, the back-to-back weekends and everything else I decide is a good idea during 2027.
And ultimately, I still have to cross every necessary finish line.
The individual events are challenges in their own right, but this one is about something slightly different.
It is about consistency across an entire season.
Keep training.
Keep recovering.
Keep turning up.
Keep moving forward.
And, one muddy piece at a time, try to assemble four Tough Mudder Trifectas before the 2027 season is over.
The calendar says it can be done.
Now I have to do it.
Endure. Overcome. Make It Count.
